Roll Tide and hello from the Richmond (VA) Chapter of the University of Alabama Alumni Association! Membership is open to all University of Alabama alumni, friends and family living in the greater Richmond area. This includes the cities of Richmond, Petersburg, Williamsburg, Fredericksburg and their surrounding and adjacent counties.
Throughout the year, the Richmond Chapter organizes events for members to interact and support the local chapter and the NAA. Events include game viewing parties, Bama Bound send offs for local students and other happenings. Besides having a lot of fun, we raise money through raffles and other fundraisers to support the Chapter and contribute to the Marcus Jeremy Smith Memorial Scholarship.
This special scholarship was created in memory of Marcus Smith, a Richmond native who perished in the April 2011 tornado that devastated Tuscaloosa. Marcus Smith graduated in 2008 from J.R. Tucker High School in Henrico. He played the trumpet for the school band at Short Pump Middle School, where he also played football. He played football at Tucker until he broke his leg his sophomore year. He made a big impact in his short time on Earth, leaving behind his parents, Robert and Jackie, and older brother Micah. Since endowing the scholarship, the Chapter has been awarded each summer to a local first year student who captures Marcus’ love of family, commitment to community and love of the Crimson Tide.
Please support the University of Alabama by joining our local chapter as well as the National Alumni Association. We invite fellow alumni and friends to join us at our events when visiting Central Virginia.
Roll Tide!

Scholarship and Recruitment:
A key objective of our chapter is to provide scholarships to deserving Bama bound students from Arizona and to assist in the recruitment of future Arizona high school students who are considering The University of Alabama for their higher education. We are only able to reach these goals through the continuous support of our chapter members, the local alumni and friends of The University of Alabama.
In 2010, the Alabama alumni chapters in Phoenix and Southern Arizona jointly established the Grand Canyon State Alabama Alumni Endowed Scholarship. The fund reached the endowment goal of $20,000 in July 2012 and may start rewarding scholarships to students from Arizona attending the University of Alabama beginning with the 2013-2014 Freshman class. Contributions of alumni and friends to the Scholarship fund are also matched annually by proceeds from the University of Alabama car tag sales in Alabama and area alumni so every contribution matters and with income from the corpus can grow quickly. As of July 20, 2012, the corpus balance in the Grand Canyon State Alabama Alumni Scholarship fund was approximately $20,808.
