Homecoming Weekend 2016: “Houndstooth and Heels”
Over 300 alumni returned to the Capstone on September 30th, 2016, for the first “Houndstooth and Heels” Homecoming event. The event brought together generations of black alumni to reconnect with old friends, network with new ones, and take part in a special Alumni weekend experience. The weekend started with an Old School Mixer at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center followed by a New School Party in Tenneson Square. The weekend culminated with tailgating on the quad and cheering on our beloved Crimson Tide to a victory over the Wildcats of The University of Kentucky.
Iron Bowl Community Service Project: Auburn and Alabama Alumni Support Children’s Village of Birmingham
The day before the epic clash, members of The University of Alabama Black Alumni Association and The Black Alumni of the War Eagle Society waged a friendly competition to raise funds and collect supplies for Children’s Village of Birmingham. The groups met at the UAB Mini Park at 1401 University Boulevard to receive donations of supplies and also raised funds through an online giving campaign that was supported by hundreds of members from both alumni organizations from around the country.
The Children’s Village of Birmingham, located in southwest Birmingham, has a unique mission of serving foster kids ages 6 to 17. It is one of the few organizations in the area that keep siblings together. This was an opportunity for us to give back and give hope. We are looking forward to continuing our support of this worthy organization.”.”
