Letter from the President
We are less than three months removed from the Crimson Tide’s 13th National Title, and for some reason it just does not feel real. I was blessed to make the trek to Pasadena and watch the game, and as I was walking out of the Rose Bowl, the first thought that came into my head was ‚“I want another one!”
You can call me greedy, but I thought that because I believe that the trophy we saw hoisted in January is the first of many headed to the Mal Moore Athletic Complex in the days ahead. The glory days are back, my friends.
As newly appointed President of Sumter Tide, it will be an honor to serve you all over the next two years, as we hopefully see more trophies hoisted in that time frame. It is hard to believe that as we began to lay the ground work for this great organization, the highlight of the prior season was an almost-win over LSU. Things have changed drastically in two short years, both for the athletic department and our group.
I am very excited about what the next two years and beyond hold for our group. We must keep moving forward as a group, and I am excited about taking Sumter Tide to new heights. I want to say a special word of thanks to Clete Beard for his hard work and dedication over the past two years as our president. Words cannot describe the job that he did; Clete is the reason that Sumter Tide is where it is today. I also want to thank Judge Eddie Hardaway, president-elect for the University of Alabama’s National Alumni Association, and Hiram Patrenos, District Vice-President, for their tireless work and support. We are fortunate to have these three men in our county and leading the Alumni Association and Sumter Tide.
I hope that each you know how vital you are to our group. Always feel welcome to give suggestions; we operate on an open door policy and feedback is encouraged. This is not my group, or Clete’s, it is ours, and together we will make it the best alumni and supporters group in the nation!
Roll Tide,
David Hawley
